Fall Lash Shed Tips & Tricks
Hello Fellow Lash Artists!
Welcome! We are going to talk about the Fall Lash Shed! We have now just come into October here in the Midwest and the leaves are starting to fall off the trees and this is when we will start experiencing problems with our clients. I am sure you have heard of the autumn lash shed, or fall lash shed before, and if you’re not used to seeing this it can be quite scary for you as a lash artist, especially if you’re new to lashing. This can also be worrisome for your clients if they aren’t educated about this cycle. used to this cycle. Today we will talk about why this happens and how to overcome the Fall Lash Shed.
What happens during the autumn lash shed?
The hair on your body starts to shed due to the seasons changing. Lashes will start to come out and you will get clients that will be coming back with really really poor retention. They’ve probably been going along throughout the year with no problems whatsoever, and all of a sudden they’re going to start coming back with no lashes or very very few lashes. If this is your first time seeing this do not panic! I remember the first time I saw the fall lash shed. My first thought was am I causing damage or are they picking at their lashes!? But actually this is the autumn lash shed cycle.
Why does this happen?
During this time of year our bodies start to shed hair. This is the hair on our head, hair on our bodies, including our eyelashes. The hair we have on our bodies actually protects us from the sun so in the summer when the sun is very high that’s when our hair and nails grow the most. Plus the extra vitamin D from the sun flows into our blood supply and really promotes the growth of these things . Now when the seasons change and Autumn arrives the sun is low. When the sun is low, we do not need as much hair on our bodies to protect us. We are absorbing less vitamin D and instead of the body using that energy on promoting new hair growth, it holds onto that Vitamin D and uses the energy to protects us from getting sick in the cold weather.
What can we do?
To be honest, there isn’t really much that you can do about it because if the lashes are shedding it doesn’t matter what glue you use or what technique you use, the lashes are still going to shed. It is important that you educate your clients about why this is happening ok and please feel free to save this post on your page. You may have clients who fall off your books during this time and that is okay. If they can’t deal with the Fall Shed invite them back when you know the cycle is complete. Don’t worry this cycle is temporary and will only last 4-6 weeks.
Tips to Help
Here are two important tips to help you and your client get through the Fall Lash Shed.
Number 1.) See client more frequently between fills. For example if a client is normally going 3 weeks in between fills, have her come back in two weeks instead.
Number 2.) You will want to lighten up your set. For example, if you are using a .15 lighten it up to a .12. If you are doing volume lashes and using a .07 lighten it up to a .05. Also, be sure to avoid the super fine baby hairs before additional weight is added. you can fill baby hairs on following fill when they are stronger.
